APAAACI Presidential Message: January/February 2022

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We wish you a very happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year 2022.

I would like to start by thanking the APAAACI Board of Directors, our committee chairs and members, Web and Journal Editors, our National Member societies and our International Advisors and Faculties for their valuable contributions in the year 2021 amidst challenging times.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, as we start the year 2022, its time for us to set new goals and aspirations. We will have an exciting line up of activities to look forward to in the months ahead.

Junior APAAACI Allergy Leadership Forum and Café (JAAFCA)

To start the year with JAAFCA, we organised the fourth episode on 24th January 2022, with the theme: Anaphylaxis in Asia Pacific: Clinical Tips to Current Trends. This forum was led by Dr. Punchama Pachern (Thailand) and comprised of workshops conducted by Dr. Lydia SY Wong (Singapore) on Practical Tips on Diagnosis and Treatment of Anaphylaxis, Dr. Punchama Pachern (Thailand) on FDEIA: Diagnosis and Management, and Dr. Kyunguk Jeong (Korea) on Developing an Anaphylaxis Registry: The Korean Experience

APAAACI Joins FOCIS

Fostering interdisciplinary approaches to both understand and treat immune-based diseases, APAAACI recently collaborated with FOCIS with a very successful FOCIS symposium at the APAAACI 2021 International Conference.

APAAACI is now proud to announce that it has officially become a member of the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies. We look forward to several collaborative joint initiatives, including APAAACI Symposia at the FOCIS 2022 Congress and the FOCIS Symposium at the APAAACI 2022 Congress.

APAAACI is collaborating with several national member societies to bring to you the best in allergy, asthma and clinical immunology.

APAAACI MasterClass: Current updates on Chronic Urticaria and Atopic Dermatitis

PSAAI SS Symposium in collaboration with APAAACI at MSAI-APSID Congress 2022

The Philippine Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology collaborates at the MSAI-APSID Congress 2022 on 2 April, 2022.

APAAACI 2022 PSAAI@50

APAAACI will organise its biennial congress APAAACI 2022 Congress PSAAAI@50 in Manila 5-8 December 2022. The Congress will be jointly hosted by APAAACI and the Philippine Society of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (PSAAI). With a greater element of prestige, it will also be a golden jubilee celebration of the PSAAI. We look forward to updating you on the congress details in the coming months. See you in Manila!

APAAACI Publication Release

APAAACI 2021 International Conference: a new era of allergy and clinical immunology in digital

There has been a steep increase in the incidence of allergic and autoimmune diseases, reaching epidemic proportions and now affecting more than one billion people worldwide. These diseases are more common in industrialized countries, and their prevalence continues to rise in developing countries in parallel with urbanization and industrialization. Amidst the challenges of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic Asia Pacific Association of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (APAAACI) held the APAAACI 2021 International Conference fully virtually with the theme “Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities in Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology in the New Era.” Although this originated as an Asia-Pacific in-person congress, over time the congress pivoted successfully to an on-line meeting with over 3,000 delegates from 59 countries. COVID-19 Resource Centre:

The APAAACI COVID-19 Task force continues to develop recommendations, online modules for HCPs and web lectures/panel discussions with regional and global leaders. The Taskforce is constantly engaged in updating the latest news, information from health authorities and regulatory bodies, publications, and information on vaccines as it emerges. As countries in our region start the vaccination program, we believe that these guidelines will serve as an important resource. View our COVID-19 Resource Centre now!

Surveys

The APAAACI Committees are currently in the process of compiling and finalizing the Covid-19: Part II survey-based data generated and moving towards publishing the findings in our Asia Pacific Allergy Journal. Several, other projects are being initiated by the committees under the leadership of the committee chairs.

Literature Highlights

Our Web editors Prof. Bernard Thong and Prof. Amir HA Latiff have been working diligently in developing various web features as well as for the literature highlights. Their highlights in Allergy provide updates from recent publications intended to help you to keep up to date on evidence-based medical research.
