APAAACI Presidential Message: March/April 2021

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

This month APAAACI has reached several thousands for our Allergy week 2021. We express our sincere gratitude to you, all our member societies and our APAAACI community for coming together and delivering valuable contributions and for sharing this to the world. The APAAACI Allergy Week 2021 has achieved its intended target, and I am deeply grateful to all those of you who made this a reality. Allow me to summarize:

APAAACI Allergy Week: COVID-19: Allergies and Vaccines

APAAACI sucessfully hosted a special Live webinar on the theme COVID-19: Allergies and Vaccines, Understanding the Facts & Myths on 12th April 2021 via our APAAACI TV YouTube channel.

The webinar which was led by WHO leadership, a parliamentarian, global and regional leaders aimed to provide a better understanding of COVID-19 and allergies, the science of the vaccines, safe implementation, and improved physician understanding and public awareness on the benefits and safety of the vaccines. With the line up of the high profile faculty, the event had a turn out of well over 2,000 attendees. We thank our distinguished speakers and the APAAACI task force for putting their efforts and time toward the success of this event. Watch Now

 

APAAACI Allergy Week: Member Society Activities

Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI)

During the 20th MSAI Congress, on the 10th of April, MSAI jointly with APAAACI and Allergy and Clinical Immunology Society (ACIS) held a plenary session on COVID-19: A prelude to the APAAACI Allergy Week 2021 addressing the different aspects of the pandemic to vaccination and special aspects in PID patients. Philippine Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (PSAAI)

PSAAI organised a live press conference and webinar in line with APAAACI Allergy week on the 13th of April with several attendees and over 4,000 views. This brought the influential likes of Prof. Rommel Lobo, Dr. Stanley Fineman, Prof. Ruby Pawankar and Prof. Maria Carmen D. Ang. The session was moderated by Dr. Carmela Kasala.

Vietnam Society of Allergy (HSAACI)

The HSAACI organised a webinar in line with APAAACI Allergy week on the 14th of April. The theme was on Allergic Airway diseases in the pandemic: epidemiology to management.

Indonesian Society of Allergy and Immunology (ISAI)

ISAI organised a webinar in line with APAAACI Allergy week on the 15th of April. The keynote lectures featured Prof. Giorgio Canonica and Prof. Ruby Pawankar. This also brought along national experts including Prof. Iris Rengganis (President ISAI), Prof. Cissy Kartasasmita, Dr. Ansari Saifuddin Hasibuan and Dr. Eko Surachmanto.

Mongolian Society of Allergology (MSA)

MSA organised a live webinar in line with APAAACI Allergy week on the 17th of April. This featured key speakers, Prof. Ruby Pawankar, Dr. T. Oyunari, Dr. E. Choimaa, Dr. Ya. Saruulzul and Prof. S. Munkhbayarlakh. This event was attended by a broad audience. View Flyer | Watch Now

APAAACI Allergy Week India Chapter

India Academy of Allergy (IAA) hosted a webinar in line with APAAACI Allergy week on the 25th of April. The theme followed An Integrated Glocal Approach of Managing Allergies & Covid-19. The event was moderated by Dr. Soumya M. S. and featured keynote speakers including Prof. Ruby Pawankar and Prof. Randeep Guleria, Director of AIIMS and Advisor to the Government of India for Covid-19. Taiwan Association of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (TAAACI)

TAAACI and TAPAAACI conducted activities in social media, multicentre public lectures and communication sessions for parents with allergic children regarding allergies in Taiwan and information on the COVID-19 vaccines.

Chinese Society of Allergology (CSA)

Prof. Luo Zhang, Past President of the Chinese Society of Allergy, and his colleagues held press briefs and public education activities and CMEs for the Allergy week.

Springtime pollen in China has put people on allergy alert. In response, Prof. Luo Zhang readily carried out patient education during the current pollen season. View Article

APAAACI International Women’s Day: Women in Science

In honour of International Women’s Day, APAAACI celebrated “Women in Science” by organising a LIVE panel intended to motivate and encourage young women into doing science. This session was broadcasted on 8th March 2021 at our APAAACI TV YouTube channel.

Our international panelists comprised of Prof. Kari Nadeau, Prof. Mariana Castells , Prof. Mubeccel Akdis, Prof. Ruby Pawankar, and was moderated by our young woman scientist Dr. Agnes Leung (Co-chair of our JM committee).

APAAACI is happy to announce Allergy’s special China Issue inaugurated in Beijing by the National Tongren Hospital, Capital University of China and Professor Luo Zhang, co-editor of the issue, the President of the National Tongren Hospital and Treasurer of APAAACI.

APAAACI 2021 International Conference Joint TAAACI

We warmly welcome you to join us at the APAAACI 2021 International Conference Joint TAAACI that will take place in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan from October 15-17 this year. With an outstanding scientific program, well-woven combination of the most recent advances and practical clinical and key experts from the region and around the world, the conference will provide the latest advances in clinical, research, hands-on and problem-based learning.

APAAACI 2022 Congress PSAAI@50

Following ahead we are also preparing for the APAAACI 2022 Congress PSAAI@50 in Manila, Philippines, 1-4 October, 2022. This Congress will be jointly hosted by APAAACI and the Philippine Society of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (PSAAI). This will also be a golden jubilee celebration of the PSAAI. Together with PSAAI we will work towards an outstanding scientific program and a cultural treat. We look forward to seeing you all there next year. More details here

Surveys

Most of the APAAACI Committees are currently at the midst of finalising their research, and developing papers based on their observational findings. We look forward to seeing our committee leaders and members develop consensus documents/state of the art review papers and implement other initiatives. Stay tuned on more updates to come!

Finally, I would like to once again thank our Board of Directors, the committee chairs and members for their hard work and dedication. I also thank our member societies and our entire APAAACI community for sharing their time and expertise in our various initiatives. We also like to hear from our membership new ideas for increased collaboration.
